Floating through the mist of Ha Long Bay

Ever since I watched The Painted Veil (an excellent movie starring Edward Norton and Naomi Watts), I always wanted to sail through a similar grandiose landscape.

So far I haven’t made it to Guangxhi in China, where the movie is set. But, Ha Long Bay in Vietnam offers the same, maybe even a better view. That day the sun refused to come out. And even though I came on a much less romantic circumstance, I didn’t complain. The light drizzle actually cooled the otherwise humid weather of Vietnam. The mist made the trip feel rather otherworldly. And the junk boat I was spending the night was the perfect place to daydream about sweet Walter Fane, serenading his wife Kitty on their little raft…
